Iran warned Israel on Monday not to cross its “red lines” in the Gulf in the final days of Donald Trump’s presidency and following a reported Israeli submarine deployment.

Foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed the Islamic republic would defend itself against any American military “adventure” in the runup to the January 20 handover of power in Washington.

Protests keep up against Israeli PM as new election looms

JERUSALEM (AP) — Hundreds of Israelis protested against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, calling on the long-serving leader to resign just days after the country was plunged into a new national election.

The protesters have been gathering outside Netanyahu’s Jerusalem residence for months, slamming him for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and saying he cannot lead the country while under indictment for fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three separate corruption cases. Israel said planning to advance settlement building before Biden enters office

Israel is expected to greenlight settlement construction ahead of the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden, according to a television report on Saturday night.

The Defense Ministry body responsible for authorizing settlement construction is expected to convene in the next two weeks — for the first time since the November US election — to advance plans for building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Kan public broadcaster.

Israel Air Force planes attack Gaza Hamas targets in response to rocket fire

Aircraft and fighter jets attacked targets belonging to the Hamas Islamic organization in the Gaza Strip, the IDF Spokesman said. The planes attacked a weapons production site, underground infrastructure, and a military position.

The attack was carried out in response to rocket fire from the south earlier on Friday evening, when air defense fighters intercepted two launches aimed at Ashkelon.
